CYCLING

The cycling events have had a chequered history in the sports. It was the Cycle Club which originally promoted the first “Amateur Athletic Sports” in 1892. At that time the Committee consisted of members of the cycle club and a few outsiders and the events included 2 cycle races, the 5 and 3 mile handicaps.

Here at Ambleside the 300m circular arena is the venue for this exciting sport with events for mens senior races, ladies senior races and junior races.  Races are handicapped which helps to ensure that every race is closely contested. Bob McLean of the Border City Wheelers manages the organisation of the Cycling Programme and we can look forward to many closely contested events.
Men’s senior races are the  500m, 800m, 1600m, 3200m handicap races, along with the premier “Devil Takes the Hindmost” event. The Junior races are over 300m, 500m and 800m
