Fell Race (FRA) – Rydal Round
Our prestigious nine-mile fell race, the Rydal Round, follows the course of one of Lakeland’s best-known walks, the Fairfield Horseshoe. You have to be a pretty serious walker to even consider walking this magnificent route, never mind running it! It is our first event of the day.
Men and women run together in this event, but there are plenty of subdivisions. The first 5 men, the first 5 ladies, and the first team of 3 all receive prizes. For the veterans, the first 3 men and 3 ladies in both the over-40 and the over-50 categories all receive prizes.

Important: Those who take part in the Rydal Round should visit the FRA website to check the essential kit and clothing that must be taken – entry will be refused without them!

Guides Races (BOFRA)
The guides races are more easily viewed by spectators as they follow a direct course up and down the fell side to the east of the arena.
The name Guide stems from the 18th century, when visitors seeking to exercise used the knowledge and skill of the local fellsmen to guide them over the mountain areas. In their spare time, the guides had competitions among themselves, racing to the top of the nearest fell and back.
The Senior guide race: Again, there are male and female competitors, with the first five males and the first five females all receiving a cut of the prize money.
Junior Guides Races:
Under 17’s for both boys and girls
Under 14’s for both boys and girls
Under 12’s for both boys and girls
Under 9’s for both boys and girls
